When Dave retired, he sought volunteer opportunities to stay connected with people who could use a helping hand. After researching local options to give back, he chose to volunteer with Help At Your Door. He shares, “[This nonprofit] helps me stay busy, feel good about myself, and help others.”

Over the past year, Dave has dedicated his time to being a Personal Driver, providing essential rides for seniors and people with disabilities. In this role, he not only transports clients to and from appointments, social outings, and errands but also assists them in and out of the vehicle. His presence and support bring comfort and ease to their lives.

Dave values the flexibility that comes with his role. He utilizes an online scheduling platform to choose the rides that align with his weekly schedule. On average, he volunteers two to three times per week, providing rides for one to two clients regularly. He emphasizes, “Each client is unique and special, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives.”

In addition to his role as a Personal Driver, Dave also volunteers as a Handyperson. His tasks range from installing safety features like grab bars, to repairing drywall, painting walls, hanging pictures, caulking windows, changing lightbulbs, and more. His diverse skill set allows him to assist clients in various ways, ensuring their homes are safe and comfortable.

Dave’s experience with Help At Your Door has led him to strongly recommend volunteering. He says, “There is [a] tremendous need. It is good for the clients and also for you. Help At Your Door has been great. They are good people who do good work.”

Thank you, Dave, for donating your time to Help At Your Door. We are so grateful for your efforts!
