When Emma started high school almost four years ago, she decided to become a Help At Your Door volunteer. Our mission along with her passion for helping older adults led her to donate her time to our nonprofit.

She explains, “I chose Help At Your Door because I truly care about the people they serve. There is an indispensable enrichment that comes from interacting among generations. I also really respect their mission as it aligns with my service values.”

Over time, Emma has explored several of our volunteer roles. She’s woken up early to shop grocery orders at Cub during the height of the pandemic, helped out at our annual fundraising event, and served as a Client Connector.

She disclosed, “I especially enjoy my role as a Client Connector because I love being able to call the same people each week, slowly recognizing their habits and building connections from there. Plus – it’s so accessible. I can call from literally anywhere and still help someone out while having a fun conversation.”

In this role, Emma has specific clients assigned to her that she contacts by telephone to take their grocery orders through an online ordering system. When requested grocery items are out of stock, she offers alternatives and ensures the accuracy of the order by reading the order back to the client.

She works with one to three clients regularly and donates about an hour of her time a week. Emma shares, “All three women I contact have been such gracious and kind people. I love calling them.”

When asked what she would say to someone interested in volunteering with Help At Your Door, Emma replied, “I would highly recommend getting into volunteering with Help At Your Door. It’s been such a great four years and I hope to continue with it for many years to come. They are a welcoming community of service leaders that are dedicated to their mission.”

Thank you, Emma, for your service! We feel so fortunate to have you as part of our volunteer team.
