Help At Your Door Board Director, Sheri Nash, understands the impact that local services can have on the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities. Her desire to give back led her to seek out volunteer opportunities. After learning about Help At Your Door, she decided to join our board in 2021.
She explains, “I was looking for a meaningful way to help my community that made a difference in people’s daily lives. Help At Your Door provides services for seniors who need help with transportation, chore assistance, home repairs, and grocery shopping.”
Help At Your Door’s mission: to help older adults and people with disabilities maintain their independence and continue living in their homes – resonated with Sheri’s experience watching her family members age. She reflects, “My parents and grandmother could have used the support of an organization like Help At Your Door. The ability to maintain routines and remain part of a community for as long as possible is ideal for many older adults.”
In addition to donating her time and expertise to our board, Sheri has made it a point to see our mission in action by helping us deliver services to clients. She notes, “I have enjoyed shopping for food with Help At Your Door volunteers and delivering groceries to clients. I’ve had many great conversations with the people we serve and enjoy seeing firsthand the impact these services make in the Twin Cities metro.”
Though Sheri is passionate about the Help At Your Door’s efforts, she knows that the need is great, especially with 285,000 Minnesotans turning 65 this decade (a number greater than the past four decades combined), according to the Minnesota State Demographic Center. She acknowledges, “As an organization, we continue to invest in outreach efforts and grow our network so that we can provide support services to more people in our community.”
To increase our reach, Sheri volunteered to join the 2023 Help At Your Door Spring Gala team, a group of individuals who are researching different options and making decisions to ensure a successful fundraising event on Friday, April 21, 2023, at
Brookview Golden Valley. She shares, “I’m so excited about our upcoming gala! We have a fun evening planned with a silent auction, delicious food, and an opportunity to learn more about who we are and the Twin Cities’ aging population. People who want to join us can read additional details about the gala and purchase tickets on our website: helpatyourdoor.org. I’m so looking forward to connecting will all our supporters.”
Before serving on our board, Sheri was a Finance and Compliance Director at Cargill, where she worked for almost 40 years in the United States and Canada. She has been married to her husband for 36 years and has two children.
Help At Your Door thanks Sheri for volunteering her time and sharing her expertise with our nonprofit. We are grateful for all her efforts to ensure that we continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults and people with disabilities.
