A year and a half ago, Lily sought a flexible opportunity to give back to her community. For some high schoolers, their curriculum includes a requirement to volunteer a certain number of hours. This was the case for Lily, though she wanted to ensure her volunteer opportunity was enjoyable and doable given her busy schedule.

After researching options, Lily found Help At Your Door’s Grocery Shopper role, where she selects items at the store based on what clients order, reviewing individual preferences and making substitutions as needed. After picking out items, Grocery Shoppers partner with one another to double-check the accuracy of orders and assist in the check-out process.

Lily looks forward to helping us weekly, volunteering about four hours each time she shops. She shares, “I like the shopping because it’s fun to search for people’s orders and talk with the other volunteers who are all so kind and fun.”

When asked what she would say to someone interested in donating their time to Help At Your Door, Lily replied, “Volunteering is worth it; not only is the work fun, but I’ve made so many connections with the volunteers that I will hold dear in my life.”

Thank you, Lily, for volunteering with Help At Your Door! We are so grateful for your time and efforts.
